2009 Tours
Iron Bridge Wine Co.
A delightful
tasting of six boutique type wines accompanied by hors d'oeuvres was enjoyed by
two dozen members of our Chapter early in March. This restaurant, wine bar,
gourmet coffee and wine shop is located in Warrenton, VA, in a building
constructed in the 1850's. Our tasting was held in a very quaint bar on the
lowest level, where you can still see the original stone foundation. Several of
the wines were of particularly high quality, and bottles were available for
purchase at deeply discounted prices. A good time was had by all at a cost of
only $15.00 per person.
Potomac Point Vineyard and Winery
This
winery is located in a beautiful French Mediterranean style building with 25.000
square feet which includes a huge tasting room, gift shop, ballroom, barrel
room, courtyard with a fountain, rooftop veranda, a unique lounge and an olive
oil tasting bar. In mid-June twenty-six of our Chapter members were treated to a
tasting of six award-winning wines as well as cheese and fruit platters. The
Tasting was conducted in the ballroom and was presented by the owner of the
Vineyard, Skip Causey. We were then given a Tour of the Winery, including the
large, bunker-type wine barrel room below the main structure.
Sunset
Hills Winery
A Tour of this relatively new winery, located near
Purcellville, VA, has been scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2009. The
vineyard at Sunset Hills is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge
Mountains, and the winery is housed in a two story 1870's era stone and
oak-timbered barn. Our tasting will consist of seven wines with cheese platters,
all at a cost of only fifteen dollars.
